Grand Theft Auto V wasn't the only best selling title Take-Two was bragging about during their results earnings conference call, as Borderlands continues to be a major source of revenue due to its massive sales. It turns out the series has now reached 23 million sold (shipped + digital) games since it was first launched in 2009.

That can be compared to the Metal Gear series that has sold around 40 million copies since it was first released 1987 with over 20 published games, or Mortal Kombat that has sold around 33 million games with more than 10 published games since 1992.

The Borderlands series is, of course, expected to sell even more with the release of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection next month, and it was also recently confirmed that the development of Borderlands 3 now has begun. Oh, and given Take-Two aren't publishing Tales from the Borderlands that game isn't even included in the tally.
