A new retro-styled real-time strategy game from Petroglyph Studios, the developer behind games like Grey Goo and Star Wars: Empire at War, is to release next week on Steam. Entitled 8-Bit Armies, the game is a full-featured fast-paced voxel based RTS with a colourful retro aesthetic.

According to the game's Steam page , 8-Bit Armies is Petroglyph's most fast-paced and accessible RTS to date, and is in a similar style to Command & Conquer games (which makes sense, the founding members of Petroglyph had a hand in both C&C and Dune II). It is to feature 25 single-player missions, 10 co-op missions, a skirmish mode, among other features.

It certainly looks like a visually stimulating take on the RTS genre thanks to the voxel-based style, and it will be interesting to see what the full game is like. It is set to release on April 22 for $14.95, adjusted for other countries at the standard Steam exchange rate.
