Chrono Trigger is one of the most memorable and beloved games of all time, and the director behind it, Takashi Tokita, recently released a new game on iOS called Final Fantasy Dimensions II. To celebrate the launch, he partook in a couple of interviews, and in one of them he dropped a big piece a news: at one point, a direct sequel to the game was in development.

Many fans had suspected as much, given that Square Enix applied for a trademark for 'Chrono Break' back in 2001, but that trademark was ultimately dropped. Now Tokita has revealed in a interview with IGN that the game was indeed underway at one point.

"There was actually a time when I planned a new title called Chrono Break," he explained. "Though it was canceled before accomplishing anything, the overall idea for the title was carried over to my latest game, Final Fantasy Dimensions II. Aemo's character setting and the balance between the three characters at the beginning...these were based on the original concept [for Chrono Break] but were reworked for this title."

So, it looks like the spirit of Chrono Break is in this latest release. Are you going to play it?
