A Plague Tale: Innocence reportedly getting a sequel

Focus Home Interactive's statement on the topic didn't say no, and skirted around the topic pretty majorly.

A Plague Tale: Innocence released earlier this year to introduce us to the tale of Amicia and Hugo trying to survive in a bleak world, and it turns out developer Asobo Studio is developing a sequel, according to a report from XboxSquad (thanks, Eurogamer).

When contacted for a statement around a sequel, reportedly due for the release window of 2022, publisher Focus Home Interactive said that they'll talk about the next game "when the right time comes".

"Focus Home Interactive and Asobo are very proud of the critical and public reception of A Plague Tale: Innocence, and the sales," the statement says. "We're delighted to have received a solid number of awards and nominations, including for Best Narrative at the Game Awards next week. We want to pursue our efforts to make sure the game gets even more attention from players and we will thus keep promoting that title as it deserves."

"Of course, we announced last year we are partnering with Asobo for a future project but never confirmed if it was a sequel to A Plague Tale or not - and will give more details on that title when the right time comes."

This isn't a no, and certainly seems to confirm a sequel in the works without explicitly saying those exact words. Of course, it's safer to wait until we get an official response, but it's still reassuring nonetheless.

REVIEW. Written by Joakim Sjögren

The next chapter of Amicia and Hugo's story is here, and we've got plenty of thoughts about this compelling, emotional adventure.
