Earlier today we were wondering whether the scheduled announcement from 505 Games and developer Kunos Simulazioni might actually be a sequel to their acclaimed racing sim, and it turned out that we were right, as Assetto Corsa Competizione has just been made official.

The game will be published under the official license of the Blancpain GT series in collaboration with SRO Motorsports, and thus it will have a particular focus on the GT3 class, offering real drivers, teams, and all the cars and tracks from that competition.

Assetto Corsa Competizione has, surprisingly, been built using Unreal 4 Engine, and will again strive for a photo-realistic representation of cars and tracks (once again using the studio's trademark laser scanning technique). Beyond that, the main feature being added is dynamic weather, perhaps the most requested feature following the first game. This is also a must for fans of events such as Sprint 60' or Spa 24h.

The announcement confirms the presence of brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and other GT representatives, and motion-capture sessions have been done to enhance realism in and out of the car.

In terms of competitive races, there's a new structure for ranking in the game, which checks individual progress and behaviour and uses that data to create fairer matchmaking. Users will be able to compare results with the same car, track, and weather conditions.

Here's the first trailer for Assetto Corsa Competizione, and the first batch of screenshots:
