The driving sim being pitched as "Your driving simulator", Assetto Corsa, drops its cutting edge physics engine on PS4 and Xbox One on April 22, 2016. The Italian studio Kunos Simulazioni has been working hard on the conversion that is being distributed by 505 Games, and the other day we could test-drive the very promising PlayStation 4 alpha build in Madrid.

You can get all details by checking out our full hands-on preview here (link), but if you're particularly concerned about framerate and content, we have a couple of good news to share.

First, the game will run smoothly at 60fps on both consoles, as Marco Massarutto confirmed to Gamereactor during our interview. PS4 will get full-HD 1080p resolution, whereas Xbox One game will run at 900p. Getting to 60 frames per second is a must for racing games fans, and studio executive director is very proud of their feat:

You had to work on the engine in order to make it work on consoles. How was the process of going from 15fps in the beginning to the current framerate (in one year)?

"(Laughs) With a lot of work. And we have a guy, a senior programmer that comes from Rockstar Games, so he's very experienced at working on consoles. What we have done has been to take our engine and re-write it from scratch in order to take the single assets, but for instance creating a multi-thread engine, working in multi-thread, something that before on PC has been done only at a basic level. On console you must use any single resource you have available, because of course it's not they can guarantee the same performance you can have on a PC that costs 2000 euro. So what we have done has been to rethink the overall process in order to work in multi-thread and understanding which part of the memory and which core can be used for instance for the graphics, for the sounds, for the Force Feedback, for the physics and so on. At the end, improvement after improvement we reached some very good result".

Besides, console users can already expect the same content updates and improvement patches applied to the PC version, as the developer confirmed to GR there's going to be "content parity" (leaving out mods for consoles, due to varying resource needs).

Check out the full preview for more PS4 gameplay and expect more details from our upcoming full interview with Massarutto.

"It's hard to find the superlatives to describe the feeling you get when sliding around a tight corner with the tire smoke forming an impressive tail behind you."
