In conjunction with the western release of Persona 5 earlier this month, developer Atlus posted some strict sharing policies that prevented players from taking screenshots or recording videos from within the PS4 UI, and more importantly, restricted players from livestreaming any events of the game past the in-game date of July 7. This was, according to Atlus, to protect new players from spoilers, but the move was met with criticism from fans. It now seems that Atlus has heard the cries of angry players, and has made slight adjustments to its strategy.
In a new post on its website the developer has announced that, instead of using July 7 as the end point for streaming, players are now able to show anything up until September 19.
In addition, Atlus also offered an apology for its strategy: "We also want to apologise to those of you who saw the previous guidelines blog post as threatening," Atlus said. "We want to be transparent about what we do, and the reason we released the guidelines was to give streamers the right information up front. It was never our intention to threaten people with copyright strikes, but we clearly chose the wrong tone for how to communicate this."
Do you agree with Atlus' attempt to protect against spoilers?
