Late last night Kotaku wrote an article where it was revealed that they had sources that had claimed that Battleborn will become free-to-play in a few months. It didn't take long for the CEO of Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford, to take note of this and deny it... kind of.

He first posted this message on Twitter: "I was just told about a reckless story about Battleborn going F2P that is false. There are no plans to convert Battleborn free to play."

That's a very clear denial, isn't it? Then, one minute later, he posted this message: "We have some unannounced plans to do a trial version of the game that would be free and from which retail can be purchased along with DLC."

Obviously this led to quite a few reactions, so Pitchford had to explain himself: "Free trial plans are not firm yet - months away. Expect great continued support and awesome line up of DLC.

"I do not expect we'll have our details sorted or be ready to talk about it until we're well past the DLC - months away at best."

People then started asking if this will be a timed demo, to which Pitchford replied: "I don't think timed demo is right. I think we need to sort our plans FIRST and then announce them. Call in a few months."

That's everything he wants to unveil right now. Not exactly surprising when they obviously didn't expect this to become common knowledge at this time. It'll be interesting to see if they're going to stay the course after this reveal, or push their plans forward. We're guessing they won't exactly sell plenty of Battleborn copies when people know there's a free version on the way.

Will you give Battleborn a try when the trial arrives?

"It was reasonably fun while it lasted, but it doesn't have the charm, the content, or that special something to inspire us back for more."
