Publisher, Bigben recently announced that it has acquired French developer Spiders, in a deal aiming to further push the publisher-developer to a leading spot in the AA industry. This is the third studio that Bigben has acquired within 18-months in efforts to bolster its game development unit and further expand the respective genres it can publish in.

This growth fits into the Bigben 2022 plan, which aims to establish the company in the AA industry. The final date of completion for the deal is set for this September, once the usual conditions have been achieved and the remaining funds have been transferred.

"This acquisition fits perfectly with Bigben's strategy to increase its know-how in the development of video games in the AA strategic segment," said Alain Falc, Chairman and CEO of Bigben. "We are delighted to welcome the talents of Spiders who will strengthen our Development unit and participate in new and even more ambitious projects."

Spiders is a studio that specialises in creating and bringing action-RPGs to life. First starting in 2008, the developer has worked on titles such as Silverfall, The Technomancer, and the upcoming Greedfall, set to launch in September. The team, including 30 employees at its Parisian studio, uses the Silk Engine for development, which allows them to integrate all the features from older generations and enables the development of titles on all platforms.

"We look forward to joining the Bigben Group, a reference player in video games industry whose strategic vision we fully share," adds Jehanne Rousseau, CEO and co-founder of Spiders. "Becoming part of the Bigben Group is a unique opportunity to accelerate our development alongside other quality studios, by integrating an environment conducive to the creation of ever more qualitative games."

What's more is that Spiders has just released the second episode of their webseries diving deep into the world of Greedfall, and you can watch both episodes below if you're interested in this RPG.
