Blizzard has revealed its plans for the 2021 Overwatch League season. In a video bringing to light all of the ideas, Overwatch League VP Jon Spector went into great detail covering all angles. Here is a summary of what was mentioned.

The 2021 Overwatch League season will kick-off in the spring, slightly later to its usual February launch date. The idea is to give the league and teams more time to be ready when the season does begin.

Regional Tournaments will also be back, reflecting something similar to the latter half of the 2020 season. For these events, a variety of different bracket formats are set to be trialled again to determine the best going forward, but the good news is, they will be more frequent across the year, as the seasonal structure will be built around them.

Two regions of competition will also be back, seeing most likely North America and Asia split down the middle. The teams partaking in certain regions are still a little fluid right now, Spector does state that this will likely be made clearer in 2021. With this being said, the end of season playoffs and finals are set to be a global event, mixing the two regions to crown a singular champion once again.

Due to the off-season being longer, there are plans to incorporate more special tournaments until the season begins, which will show off the OWL talent to keep fans entertained. As for the details of this, Spector mentioned that more information will be coming very soon, so keep an eye out.

Last of all, in February, the Overwatch League will be featured at BlizzConline for a special event called Shock versus the World, where the reigning two-time champions, the San Francisco Shock will face-off against a series of dream teams built by Overwatch professionals and content creators.

You can check out the full video at the Overwatch League website, where Spector goes into slightly deeper detail on each matter.
