Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon was announced earlier this month (see Koji Igarashi's video below) as a complete standalone game, a bonus for the highly successful Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Kickstarted game, but it seems not everyone will be getting it on release.

Curse of the Moon is an 8-bit tribute to the very first Castlevania games and also to the origins of the metroidvania genre (well, purists will call it Igavania in this case), whereas Ritual of the Night sports 16/32-bit era/modern 2D graphics and much more of an ambitious scale. In fact, Curse of the Moon was so tight and simple that it was due to release today, May 24, on several platforms, with backers getting a code to download it.

However, 'only' PS4, PS Vita, PC, and Nintendo Switch users will be able to play the game, as Nintendo 3DS owners in Europe will have to wait until May 31, and Xbox One users will have to follow suit until June 6. Even though it's a 'little' game, the Japanese team admits "this is the first time we have ever done such a large-scale multi-platform, multi-region simultaneous release for a game", as they explain in an official statement.

Have you been eagerly awaiting this?
