Konami refused to make any more Castlevania games, with led to producer Koji Igarashi leaving the company to start his very own developer ArtPlay. The team then went on to develop the spiritual sequel to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, seeking financing via Kickstarter - and the rest is history.

The response was overwhelmingly positive and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night broke Kickstarter records. And when the game finally launched, it got mostly positive reviews and has also sold very well. How well, you ask?

Late yesterday, Igarashi posted the answer to that question to all Kickstarter backers of the game with the picture below included and wrote:

"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has sold over ONE MILLION copies worldwide!

This is a remarkable milestone for any game, but it is especially sweet considering the humble beginnings of the project. Bloodstained wouldn't exist without the passion and faith of the many Kickstarter backers who made the game a reality. What started as a small idea quickly turned into a phenomenon with more backers and support from the community than we could have ever expected.

We want to thank all the game's fans for being a part of this amazing journey and for making Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night a global success."

The game has recently been expanded with the first free major update, and the developer also states there's way more of that coming in the future. Something that hopefully will translate into even better sales.

REVIEW. Written by Sergio Figueroa

"After so many years of waiting for a new Castlevania game, we can say that Koji Igarashi has delivered a good one, even if it does arrive with a different name."
