Back in February it was revealed, that Capcom had laid off a significant portion of the staff developing several projects at Capcom Vancouver, who's been responsible for the Dead Rising series in recent years. While unknown, it's assumed that the studio's main project is Dead Rising 5, but that has seemingly been cancelled.

Capcom has informed their investors, that they've cancelled a large-scale project at the studio, and is now expecting a loss of 4.5 billion yen as a result. The investor notice specifically states "projects" in plural, so it could be that the studio is still working on one or several other games.

Ever since the first game, the Dead Rising series has consistently been a disappointment in terms of sales, and the future of the studio has been in question ever since the layoffs earlier in the year. Microsoft funded the development of both Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 4, at least a large chunk of it, but neither went on to be commercial hits, and it was always unlikely that Microsoft would once more bankroll a game in the series.

Capcom has not released a statement regarding the future of the studio, nor what projects they are and were working on.
