We recently caught up with lead level designer Julien Desourteaux to discuss Styx: Shards of Darkness - the ambitious sequel to the surprise stealth hit.

"Styx: Shards of Darkness is set after Styx: Master of Shadows, but before Of Orcs and Men," explains Desourteaux when detailing the timeline of the previous titles where Styx features.

We nerded out a bit about a new mechanic combines cloning and teleportation for some rather creative stealth moves. Sadly there's no gameplay footage to illustrate just how it works, but rest assured it's pretty awesome.

The conversation also revolved around the use of Unreal Engine 4 that allows for "better renderer, better lights, better materials" while the focus is to improve both mechanics and visuals.

Additionally the fact that Styx: Master of Shadows has been made available for free on both PS4 (PS Plus) and Xbox One (Games with Gold) was discussed and the benefits of increasing the player base was touched upon.
