Dark Devotion is described as the 'Dark Souls of 2D Dark Souls', and with a tagline like that we couldn't help but ask about the game when talking to Arthur dos Santos from Hibernian Workshop, who told us that, unlike Dark Souls itself, there aren't Metroidvania elements as such to this game.

"This is not at all a Metroidvania, even if it looks like it, because each door you go through closes behind you," he told us. "So the maps are not randomly generated, because we want to have a huge control over the gamer's experience to transmit the narration, to have control on the difficulty. So you have four huge worlds, on like a tower, and each world has three or four own paths, with its own ambience, own monsters, music, bosses, and they are all interconnected. So each time the player dies [they] come back to the start and [they] can choose another way to go and explore a lot [...] we have been really generous on that point."

Do you think that this approach to the levels will work in Dark Devotion's favour?
