After Yager Development was dropped as the developers of Dead Island 2 - the game was first announced back at E3 2014 - up until today its future had seemed very uncertain.
Now, after a prolonged period of silence, during a recent interview with MCV, Koch Media's CEO, Dr Klemens Kundratitz, announced that the highly anticipated sequel to the survival horror game is under development at Sumo Digital, after some speculation regarding Techland. Here's what he had to say:
"Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent, vision that was aligned with our own.
It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now I'd like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them."
Sumo Digital is best known as having worked on games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, LittleBigPlanet 3, Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious and Dead Space Ignition (although it's worth noting that they were born out of the ashes of Gremlin Interactive/Infogrames Sheffield Studio). Expect new details on Dead Island 2 in the coming months, and of course we'll likely see it once again at E3 in June.
Thanks, MCV.
