CCP has updated their free-to-play PS3 shooter, Dust 514. The first-person sci-fi shooter ties into the long-established Eve Online universe, allowing console-based players to take part in a ground war within a wider conflict.

Uprising 1.5 is live now, and brings about a few tweaks to the game, including a revised new player experience, squad finder and new corporation roles (details below, or head this way for full patch notes).

Revised New Player Experience: Initial tutorials have been completely revised, now following a task-driven structure that rewards players for demonstrating proficiency in joining battles, creating fittings and training skills. Rewards are granted in the form of militia dropsuits, vehicles, weapons and modules.

Squad Finder: Squads are designed to help get players grouped up and battling together in DUST 514. The new Squad Finder will list all available squads that are not yet deployed into battle and are waiting on new players to join them.

New Corporation Roles: Corporation CEOs and directors can now distribute specific roles to other members within the corporation. The roles that can be assigned are: Accountant, Personnel Director, Terrestrial Combat Officer and Terrestrial Logistics Officer.

In other noteworthy news from CCP, Battlefield veteran Jean-Charles Gaudechon has joined the team as executive producer on Dust 514, and will lead future development of the title from CCP's Shanghai-based studio.

"The scope and vision of DUST 514, and its integration into the massive EVE Online Universe is unparalleled, creating the largest single-shard online multi-player game to date," said Gaudechon. "I look forward to my journey with CCP as we push the boundaries of the game even farther, to an experience as large and meaningful as the EVE Universe itself."

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It's not a write-off by any means. It's just not brilliant either, which is a shame, because this is evidently fertile ground, and it could have been a wonderful shooter."
