Not too long ago, Microsoft unveiled xCloud, a new native cloud gaming service set to launch sometime next year, which seemingly will let players all over the globe play console quality games on a variety of devices, including tablets and smartphones.

Now it would seem that EA is keen to announce their plans for something very similar as well. Their CTO, Ken Moss, has written a lengthy article on Medium announcing Project Atlas, a new venture for the company which is currently being tested by over a thousand EA employees.

Apparently, Atlas merges a game engine based on Frostbite and services into a single "transformative" development platform. According to Moss, this is how the future of games looks like.

"I'm excited to share some of what we've been working on that is going to change how future games are made. Our industry has come a long way since I was a kid. But looking ahead to the next few years, I strongly believe that what's on the horizon will bring greater changes than anything gaming has ever seen."

This service will apparently make it feasible to play "games with your friends anytime, anywhere, and on any device."

There's not a lot of concrete information about the service in the article, so it would seem that we have to wait a bit.
