With this spring's controversy regarding crossplay between PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch for multiplayer titles such as Fortnite still warm, we asked FIFA 19's Matthew Prior if they would like to see everyone playing online together.
"I'm a gamer myself, and 'player first' is kind of the EA mantra, and I think it could only be a beneficial thing to the playing experience if the community is that much broader", says the creative director. "So obviously I think if there was the ability to play anyone on any console I think that's a net benefit for the user and I think something that the players would want".
However, as shown with other games this is not just EA's call. "Obviously there's a lot to work through in that", Prior underlines, "but ultimately it's something we would like to do because I think for the players is a very beneficial feature. (...) I would say it would be a great addition to be able to broaden that community to be a much more robust and diverse community, and playing online and playing against players on your own skill level, it would enhance that, so absolutely".
