There was a lot of expectation building around the latest financial report from Nintendo. A few hours ago the Kyoto-based company shared their results for the latest financial period, including sales figures for the Switch as well as for a few select first-party games. Simply put, it's good news for the company, which has revealed that there are eight titles for the Switch that have already passed the one million mark.

Super Mario Odyssey took the holidays by storm to become the best-selling game on the platform. By the end of the year, there were 9.07 million copies sold around the world according to the company, meaning that 61% of Switch owners bought the game. In two months the platformer surpassed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which ranked second with 7.33 million units, while launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came in third with 6.70 million copies sold. Splatoon 2 sits at 4.91 million copies sold, almost half of them flying off of store shelves in Japan.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and a third-party title

Four other Switch games become million-sellers in this financial quarter. Family games 1-2 Switch and Arms did the business, as did RPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which released in December 2017, making it the fastest-selling entry in the franchise developed by Monolith Soft. The last game to tell you about is a third-party title not named by Nintendo. However, after months following the best-selling games lists across the big markets, we've come to the conclusion that it's Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Nintendo also reports that Pokémon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon for the 3DS family of systems sold 7.17 million units (combined) around the world by the end of 2017. This is less than half of the 14.69 million units sold by Pokémon Sun and Moon in the same period the year before. The next iteration of the main series was announced for the Switch.

Did you expect Super Mario Odyssey to beat Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the sales department?
