Even though it was a no-show at E3 last week, and considering it doesn't even have a launch window yet, it looks like the development of Final Fantasy VII: Remake is moving ahead at a decent pace. Or, in director Tetsuya Nomura's words, "production is going well".

This is how Nomura defined the status of the project when talking to Weekly Famitsu (and via Gematsu). The remake's development is actually "moving along more than expected, so please wait for the next news release with peace of mind," says the translation.

Also, the new direction the game took when changing hands "was pretty much decided upon before we changed to internal development," so that shouldn't have had as much impact on the project as some might have expected.

While there's still no word on when we'll get the game, one tidbit the Japanese director was happy to share is that "while preserving the atmosphere of the original, the scenario will dig deeper into the characters, including members of Avalanche," which will then expand the game's lore and naturally offer something new to long-time fans.
