In an interview with Dengeki PlayStation (translated via Gematsu) game director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase offered some further details on the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII: Remake.

The original, released on the PlayStation way back in 1997 didn't feature voice acting, with dialogue instead presented through text boxes. This won't be the same for the remake however, as Nomura has confirmed the game will feature full voice-acting.

"Basically, it will be fully voiced. We still haven't decided the voices of the characters that weren't in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children," he said.

When asked if dating events would also be voiced Kitase responded: "It would be impossible not to. However, since it's different from that time and social situation, we need implement the reproduction of original events carefully."

Next Kitase was questioned about the scale of the game and whether it would feature an open world: "We can't say anything yet, but we don't plan on fussing about whether it's a so-called open-world or sandbox," he said. "But since Nomura is more focused on the creation of the scenery, we want to express an environment character actions affect the scenery."

Kitase also hinted at the possible inclusion of mini-games in the remake saying that he wants to put in mini-games that "remain favourable among the fans as much as possible".

In regards to production in appears that we still have quite a wait before we finally get to experience the modern version of the much-loved RPG.

"We're at the stage where we can say we're finally getting started. We have ideas regarding battles, too, but it will take time to drop them into the actual game."

With Final Fantasy VII celebrating the 20th anniversary of its original launch in Japan on January 31, 2017, the pair were asked if fans could expect anything to mark the occasion. Kitase remained tight-lipped while Nomura said: "Personally, I'm waiting for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 and World of Final Fantasy in 2016. I think when they're completed."

No release date has yet been set for Final fantasy VII: Remake, but Nomura recently announced that it would be a 'multi-part series'.
