The Overwatch League's first season is underway right now, and since teams can start signing players for the upcoming Stage 2, starting on February 21, one team has already signed someone, as Florida Mayhem has announced that they have recruited Joonas 'Zappis' Alakurtti.

Zappis was in fact a part of Team Gigantti who beat Misfits' team in the Overwatch Contenders Season 1 finals (Florida Mayhem are mostly made up of ex-Misfits players), and has a wealth of experience both at club level and at the Overwatch World Cup, representing Finland. For Mayhem he will be filling the role of a flex tank, but he can also play across all roles.

VP of West Coast Operations for Florida Mayhem Jake Kuhn said: "I cannot express how excited we are to bring on Joonas. He brings leadership and flexibility, experience and intellect. We know he will fit in - every one of our players respects him as a player and an individual. This addition to our team is a major step towards a future in which our Fans can believe."

"Hello fans and supporters of Florida Mayhem! I feel very blessed and enthusiastic in being the newest addition to the Florida Mayhem roster. I'm reconnecting with players whom I have a long history of playing with or against in the fields of Overwatch and I'm excited to start working with the team and supporters behind it," Zappis added.

Can Zappis really bolster Mayhem's team significantly?
