When back in the summer we talked to Konami at Camp Nou and asked about the expected free version of PES 2017, it still wasn't clear what the approach would be for this year, but we were told they were going to tweak previous season's model for sure. That has been the case as, in a surprise announcement, Konami said that starting today you can download Pro Evolution Soccer 2017: Trial Edition for free.

Instead of focusing on the myClub mode as before, the content offers the new online mode PES League, which is a new esports focused aspect, but also allows you to play quick friendly matches and perform training sessions to improve your skills.

Even if there's a lot of teams missing, the download on PS4 weighs in at 22.5 GB (which is pretty close to the 23.52 figure of the full game), which makes us think the complete content just has to be there when facing full game players online. Trial Edition is also available on PS3, Xbox One (starting tomorrow), and PC via Steam.

We at Gamereactor have already downloaded and taken a look at this version. Included teams are FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Arsenal FC, SC Corinthians Paulista, CR Flamengo, CA River Plate, CA Boca Juniors and the national teams for Germany and France. Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are shockingly out, despite the partnership deals signed with Konami or Aubameyang being official cover star for this version. The new PES League mode has also been added to the full game via today's Data Pack 2.0/Update 1.03.

Will you be downloading this free edition?
