Whilst the surprise was already ruined in leaks prior to E3, Elden Ring has been officially announced. Published by Bandai Namco and developed by FromSoftware, the new action-RPG is one to get excited about.

This fantasy project is a collaboration between Dark Souls creator Hideteka Miyazaki and author George R.R. Martin, the man behind the best-selling A Song of Ice and Fire series - better known for its TV adaptation, Game of Thrones.

A cinematic trailer dropped during Microsoft's E3 2019 press conference, setting the gloomy tone with a dramatic voice-over, enigmatic imagery and a powerful orchestrated soundtrack. The pre-rendered video didn't include any gameplay, but it'd be safe to expect similarities to Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

Little else is known about the title, but with a world-class game designer and the king of fantasy narrative on board, expectations are set sky high.

Elden Ring is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One, although a release window has yet to be announced.
