Frostpunk on consoles "not a port - it is a full redesign"

11 bit Studios also told us that their goal is to "make games about things that stay with you after you've finished".

Earlier this summer we found out that Frostpunk: Console Edition is releasing in October, and at Gamescom we actually got to talk with 11 bit Studios' marketing director Patryk Grzeszczuk about the console version in particular, following on from the PC release.

"From our point of view, it is not a port," he clarified. "It is a full redesign of the game. This is why it took us over a year from the initial PC launch to bring this port, let's call it, to life. So what we did is actually we have redesigned the whole thing from the ground up, starting with controls, UI, overall experience, so people could feel and play the game as it was designed with consoles at heart from day one."

We also spoke a little about the ideas behind Frostpunk as a whole, and the messages it delivers:

"We want to make games about things that stay with you after you've finished your playthrough, something that makes you think and makes you hopefully talk about it with your friends and family and whatnot."

This is unsurprising, given the fact that this is about getting a colony to survive in a harsh winter climate. We rather enjoyed the at-times harrowing experience 11 bit Studios offered us though, as you can tell in our review of the PC version.

Will you try it out on console?
