Rumours have been floating around about what Activision Blizzard's goals are in terms of future teams for the Overwatch League, but now ESPN reports that expansion slots for the OWL will be priced between $30 and $60 million USD (the original 12 slots went for $20 million), and that negotiations are already underway with potential buyers, according to alleged sources.
Several factors will determine the final price, according to the report, including the population of the area the team is based in, as well as the number of Overwatch players in the region. What's more is that sources also say that if there are multiple buyers in one market, these will bid against each other, subsequently raising the price as well.
Apparently the jump in price also has to do with the evaluation of esports organisations too, especially those already present in the OWL and North American LCS (League of Legends Championship Series), and sources add that multiple organisations are afraid of missing out, especially with between four to six expansion slots being targeted for next season.
Do you think this report is true? Who do you expect to pay these prices?
