Gears 5 has gone down a treat with fans (and critics - check out our review here), so much so that the official Xbox site has revealed that it set a new record as the biggest launch week for any Xbox Game Studios title this generation, also being the most-played Xbox Game Studios title in its first week since 2012's Halo 4.

The first week includes the early access period starting September 6, available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Ultimate Edition owners, and on PC Gears 5 has almost tripled the performance of the previous game, being the biggest ever launch for Xbox Game Pass on PC, as well as the best Xbox Game Studios debut on Steam.

This is all very good news for Microsoft and The Coalition, who have received praise for advancing the series following a lukewarm reception to Gears of War 4. Despite server issues (which are being addressed), it has still managed to gather a sizeable audience via those who bought the game and those using Game Pass, so much so that it overtook Fortnite as the most-played Xbox title.

The Xbox Wire Twitter account also reveals that the game saw three million players in its opening weekend too.

Is this the best Gears of War title yet?
