The Deutsche Fußball Liga are the largest sporting league in Germany, being the organisers of the colossal Bundesliga, and it looks like they may be expanding into the world of esports. Information has emerged online that the DFL have applied for numerous trademarks related to esports.

The trademarks include the "DFL Esport Bundesliga," "DFL Virtuelle Bundesliga," and "eBundesliga." This move into esports from the DFL shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, as Bundesliga team VFL Wolfsburg have at least one professional FIFA player on their roster. The question now is; will other leagues follow suit? The Premier League's West Ham also have their own professional FIFA player, so we may be seeing UK organisations make a few esports-related trademarks sometime soon.

As of right now, it's not certain whether or not the esports Branch of the Bundesliga will only focus on virtual football, like FIFA games, or if they will branch out to more mainstream esports like League of Legends, Counter-Strike, or DotA2. It would certainly not be a bad idea, seeing as that is where all the big bucks are in the industry right now. What do you think will happen?
