While it may come as no surprise now, given that the game's title and central premise leaked yesterday through a Collector's Edition on the official Ubisoft store, tonight finally marked the official reveal of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the next chapter in the series, that seeks to build on the foundation created by Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Tonight's reveal consisted of several trailers, one being an extended gameplay demonstration, and all can be seen below, alongside official images.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is an open-world third-person action game set on the island of Auroa, which you can explore either alone or with up to three friends. The world once again is built to support several playstyles, and you can tackle objectives from a variety of angles, either using stealth and tools or go in guns blazing. There's an increased emphasis on struggle though, as the title suggests, so when you do get shot, it'll have an increased impact, and can prohibit you from aiming correctly, unless the wound is treated immediately.

The island is the heart of the Skell Technologies operation, which manufactures drones and AI-controlled machinery. This has been taken over by an organization called The Wolves, led by the main antagonist played by Jon Bernthal, he is himself an ex-ghost operative. They'll be hunting you through the jungle this time, and you'll need to use camouflage and a Bivouac to stay one step ahead.

There's an increased emphasis on story, with the campaign offering up dialogue choices to your character, Nomad, as well more cutscenes and more exposition of side characters. In addition, through the Gunsmith, you'll be able to customize and create weapons for each of the game's four classes, as well as visually customize Nomad with a variety of clothing and tactical options.

PvP will be there when the game launches on October 4th, and Ubisoft has already promised one major expansion every four months, with the first one offering up the first ever raid for a Ghost Recon game.

Below you'll find the gameplay demonstration, as well as a story trailer revealing information about The Wolves.

REVIEW. Written by Eirik Hyldbakk Furu

"Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is definitely a fun game at its core, but its identity crisis and focus on quantity over quality shines through in a way that lessens the experience."
