The FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships 2018 European Finals are to be held this weekend with a big surprise, as the very last race will be driven on a completely new track, one pro players hadn't even seen until today. We're talking about Circuit de Catalunya - Montmeló, which will then be available to all Gran Tursimo Sport players via a later update.

The competition organizers gave drivers the news during the pre-finals briefing just yesterday. It was right after the formal presentation, hosted by both SIE Iberia general manager Liliana Laporte and GT Sport creator Kazunori Yamauchi. The event also had administration representatives, in the form of both Spanish Culture Minister José Guirao and Madrid's local government committee.

None of the participants knew about last race location beforehand, so none of them have been able to test-drive it on Gran Turismo Sport. However, they'll have two hours of training before the grand finals, but will they perfect their mastery on the already known tracks to keep focus or will they try to learn the new track by heart? Strategy is the key.

The European finals decide both continental champions and 10 qualifiers for the Global Finals. There's a hotlap group-based first stage, and then the PvP direct races, and all are available to watch via streaming during the weekend.

Before the event, Gamereactor had the chance to once again interviewing Yamauchi-san to talk about the competition and the new features coming to the game in the future. Our full interview will be ready to watch on GRTV very soon.
