We caught up with Jehanne Rousseau, CEO of Spiders Studio, dressed up in an age appropriate costume, for a discussion on the Baroque-inspired RPG Greedfall.

Rousseau summed up the basics of the games as a "17th century fantasy setting", "very exploration oriented" RPG, where your choices will "completely change what you're experiencing".

Much like previous Spiders titles it's not really an open world RPG, instead you will visit various larger hub areas.

"If I was to pick a reference it would be Dragon Age," says Rousseau. "This kind of huge levels, but you still have a world map where you can switch from one area to another."

"We want to give a lot of freedom to the player so he can decide which order he wants to do the quests. He can just roam the universe and walk around and look at strange creatures inhabiting. But the story is a very important part of the gameplay. So it's very narrative (driven), but a very large story where you can roam around or follow the main scenario and discover what is happening."

While Greedfall is inspired by the Baroque era and the 17th century it is not a historical setting.

"There are plenty of different types of magic. There are some huge creatures. And as you've seen in the little teaser you will discover an island during the game and this island is inhabited by characters that are not completely human. They are heavily linked to nature. And they, of course, fight for it, they want to defend the island. And as you arrive as a settler, of course, things will not probably go as smooth as possible."

Below is the reveal teaser for the game:

Rousseau mentioned that work on Greedfall started about six months ago, right after the completion of The Technomancer, and while no firm release window has been set the hope is for Greedfall to see release next year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
