The League of Legends World Championship kicks off this month and the four groups have been drawn for the group stages of the competition due to start on September 29.

The top seed in each group was a champion of one of the five regions which include North America, Europe, China, Korea and Taiwan. Europe did not enter the top pool, however, as champions G2 Esports caused controversy after playing badly at the Mid Season International and admitting they had not practiced for the tournament.

The remaining spots in the each group came from the other nations' second and third place teams as well as two International Wildcard teams.

The defending champions are SK Telecom, surprisingly only entering in the second spot from Korea this year, and are placed in Group B with Taiwan's Flash Wolves, China's I May and Cloud9.

G2 are in Group A, however, alongside ROX Tigers, Counter Logic Gaming and Albus NoX Luna, a wildcard.

North American champions Team SoloMid are in Group D, however, against Royal Never Give Up, Samsung Galaxy and Splyce, leaving Group C to be filled by EDward Gaming, ahq e-Sports Club, H2k-Gaming and INTZ e-Sports.

The group stages will go on from September 29 to October 2 as well as from October 6 to 9 in San Francisco. After that will be the quarter-finals in Chicago on October 13 to 16, the semi-finals in New York from October 21 to 22 and the grand final in Los Angeles in October 29.
