A cab driver from Germany and a student from Spain. Lars Schlömer and Lucas Ordóñez are the winners of Nissan GT Academy.

All through the summer Sony and Nissan have been running Nissan GT Academy, where players in qualified in national trials where the fastest lap times in Gran Turismo 5: Prologue were registered. Last weekend at the legendary race track Silverstone in England 22 finalists competed to earn their place in the Nissan race team for the Dubai 24hr endurance race in January next year. Lars and Lucas now face four month of training with the Nissan in order to qualify for their racing license.

Johnny Herbert, the former Formula 1 driver, and one of the judges in the finals, had this to say about the competitors who raced at Silverstone:

"This competition has far exceeded my expectations. I have often thought that somewhere out there is someone who is better than a Lewis, Kimi or Felipe but they just haven't had the chance to drive. Looking at the 22 GT Academy finalists for the first time, I was sure that we would have a few with absolutely no feeling who wouldn't make it out of second gear but we didn't have one. Nobody disgraced themselves and they were doing stuff they have never done before and it was very impressive."

In the Olympics the worst place is the one of just outside the podium, but in the GT Academy finals third place did not make Swede Chris Midmark happy. The Swede was impressive at the beginning of the week, but had a hard time during the final day of racing.
