343 Industries promised players affected by the botched launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection that they would make it right, and it seems like the studio are making good on their word, and are offering players some free content as they seek to repair their reputation.

The most notable piece of compensation is Halo 3: ODST, which will be remastered for Xbox One and then given free to players who played Halo: MCC between November 11 and December 19. According to a post by Bonnie Ross it'll be running at 60fps and in 1080p. Development on the project has just started, so it may take a while to materialise. Still, it's a nice move.

Another freebie will be the Halo 2: Anniversary map Relic, which will drop as part of a free content update. Again, 60fps and in 1080p, and like other Anniversary maps, fully remastered. Certain Affinity will be working on that. On top of that players will be given a month of free Xbox Live Gold, plus an exclusive in-game nameplate and avatar.

In the same announcement, Ross confirmed that the Spartans Ops co-op campaign for Halo 4 will drop next week, alongside another update that will "further improve the all-up gameplay experience". Ross also stated that even more matchmaking playlists will be added to Halo: MCC, although no timeframe was offered on when we can expect to see them.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"It has aged exceptionally well, a fact that speaks to Bungie's original quality as well as the restorative nip and tuck overseen by 343 Industries."
