It really was a matter of when rather than if.

While top-down shooter Halo: Spartan Assault was one of the gaming beacons for Microsoft's Windows Mobile when it was first revealed, the inevitable question cropped up of when it'd be making the shift to other formats.

Its publisher has confirmed that today with the announcement of its release on Xbox One as a digital download on December 24th for £11.99. Those Windows Phone owners who have already bought the game on smartphone prior to December 15th won't have the option of a free download, but can buy the console version at the reduced price of £3.99. The Xbox 360 version is due in January.

The Xbox One version will run at 1080p, 60FPS, and both console versions will offer online multiplayer.

"For the most part it's pretty fun to play. However, there's no Master Chief and it's no masterpiece."
