When news hit yesterday that Viacom was looking to sell its ownership of developer Harmonix, questions were raised about the studio's future and its franchise titles Rock Band and Dance Central. But both Harmonix and Viacom were quick to confirm that the sale hasn't effected the US outfit's long-term plans.

Speaking on Rock Band 3's official forums, Harmonix Manager of Communications John Drake stated the announcement doesn't effect the studio's support of either franchise.

"Rock Band and Dance Central will continue to be worked on at Harmonix for the foreseeable future. We're not leaving them behind," he said.

"Many of you have asked about DLC. To be clear...we will continue to support our existing franchises [and] work at the studio is not affected by this announcement. RB DLC will continue unabated. We're excited to confirm that The BeeGees are our next DLC pack."

Of potential buyers for the firm, Drake would only say Viacom was in discussions with several possible candidates, but it would continue to fully support the developer until a sale was completed.

A Viacom spokesperson confirmed the situation via a short statement, offering that the announcement "does not affect the ongoing work at the studio as they continue to support Rock Band and Dance Central."

Viacom, which owns several production companies and television networks like Paramount Pictures and MTV, has decided on the sale as it refocuses its business strategy "on what they do best: make great branded entertainment content and deliver it through a variety of platforms".
