The first day of the Smite World Championship has concluded, seeing two matches of gripping action take place in the Placements section of the tournament bracket. With both series ending in a 3-0 fashion, one quarterfinal is already set and ready to go in a few days time.

The first match saw Belt Slap take on Renegades, and with Renegades being the Smite Pro League (SPL) roster and Belt Slap a contenders team, the match went the way you'd expect. Renegades knocked out the challenging team to progress to the quarterfinals.

In the second match of the day, Obey Alliance took on Sanguine Esports. Both these teams harken from the SPL so a more competitive series was expected, but Sanguine took no time in defeating Obey in a 3-0 fashion to move on in the tournament.

This does mean that the first quarterfinal is set, and will see Renegades take on Sanguine, for a shot at facing off against the no.1 seeded Ghost Gaming.

The next series of matches will take place later today, seeing Mind The Gap (another contending roster) take on Spacestation Gaming, before Eunited faces Pittsburgh Knights, with all four teams looking for slots in the other quarterfinal.

Be sure to catch today's action at the Smite Esports Twitch channel, when the games kick-off at 5pm GMT / 6pm CET.

REVIEW. Written by Johannes Leander

"Despite the cool Gods at war theme, balancing issues and clumsy matchmaking present too much of a hindrance for us to truly enjoy this MOBA title."
