Housemarque unveils Matterfall in Paris

One of the new announcements at Sony's Paris Games Week press conference was Housemarque's Matterfall, a new sci-fi title from the studio that gave us Resogun. The game is being developed under the Sony XDev umbrella and is thus a full on exclusive.

Here's a brief synopsis on the title, but yeah, we're not a great deal more informed as to the actual gameplay, but Housemarque's arcade heritage was mentioned so we're sure it will deliver the kind of action you'd expect from the makers of Super Stardust and Resogun.

"MatterFall follows an unexpected hero fighting for survival on a ravished sci-fi world infected by a mysterious and deadly alien material known only as "Smart Matter". Using agility and powerful weaponry you must explore this new world and utilise your own control over the Smart Matter to uncover the mystery of this new threat and save the day before it threatens the very existence of the human race."

Update:

We now have some gameplay details, which makes it sound like the game is partially inspired by Mega Man. Below are bullet points from the fact sheet:

"1. Survive a unique combination of platforming and bullet hell action within a massively vertical futuristic city that is being overrun by the mysterious "Smart Matter".

2. Manipulate "Smart Matter" to turn the environment to your advantage.

3. Master extreme aerial agility, sliding, leaping, and blasting to take down hordes of enemies.

4. Experiment with augmented weapons as you explore landmark locations known as the Domed City, Alien Ruins and The Space Elevator.

5. Engage in local co-op and competitive gameplay modes, comparing kills, scores and statistics against other players."
