In Recompile you play as sentient piece of code in a mainframe

Phigames' Recompile merges a few different influences together into one rather unique project, and at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) this year we spoke to Dear Villagers head of publishing Guillaume Jamet to learn more about what Recompile is, and what we'll be doing.

"Recompile is a very unusual game. It's a 3D sci-fi Metroidvania," he explained. "So it takes most of the basics of a Metroidvania game, but inside a 3D world, so you will have to explore, platforming, you will have to fight your way with third-person combat, and also all the game is happening in the computer, on the mainframe, and considering you're in a computer you'll have access to some hacking tools."

"So basically it will be all about exploring, finding out who you are, because you are playing a piece of code inside the mainframe which somehow becomes sentient and self-conscious, and so obviously you want to know who you are, you know, because it's all new to you."

Does this concept sound intriguing?
