A sequel to the popular PC first-person shooter, Insurgency, was announced yesterday, and it's coming to both console and PCs this time around.

Insurgency: Sandstorm has been completely rebuilt from the ground up in a new engine (Unreal 4), and developer New World Interactive has signed a partnership with publisher Focus Home Interactive.

Jeremy Blum, the founder of New World Interactive, has said that his company is "very excited about working with Focus on Insurgency: Sandstorm," explaining that they believe the publisher "understands our game and believes in our vision."

The original started life as a total conversion mod built using Valve's Source engine. It then was remade and reworked, and proved a hit with players, selling over 2.3 million copies on PC, where it has been available since early 2014.

The new game, while not much is being said as of yet, is to have a new story mode and, despite being brought to consoles, will have the realistic style that the original was known for on PC.

The announcement claims that Insurgency: Sandstorm will be ready for release on both PC and consoles in 2017.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"The technical issues are relatively mild in the grand scheme of things, and for the most part, we were thoroughly impressed."
