The amount of appropriate and unused words for video game titles are running out, fast. And with developers and publishers being more vigilant about protecting their trademarks and copyrights we're going to see more lawyers involved than ever before.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun report on a situation where InXile Entertainment and one man dev studio Dan Games butted heads over the latter's game, Alien Wasteland. InXile owns the Wasteland IP and wanted Dan Games to change the name to avoid confusion. Dan Games on the other hand felt there was little chance of confusion with his first-person shooter style indie title released on Steam last summer.

The two parties tell different stories on how things got to the point where InXile had lawyers draw up a cease and desist letter. InXile claim that Dan Games wanted compensation for changing the title, while Dan Games says that forcing a name change was unreasonable to begin with.

InXile claims to hold no ill will and have offered to assist with promoting the new title of a game that has been met with mixed reviews and little in the way of attention on Steam.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"From time to time the pace drops away, but for the most part this is an enthralling and engaging role-playing game."
