The Elder Scrolls Online will be visiting the home of the Khajiits when the Elsweyr Chapter releases on June 4, and during a recent preview event in London we got to play the game and talk to game director Matt Firor about why they choose the Khajiit homeland.
"We picked the Khajiits because they're cool, they're just cool, and we hadn't done them before," Firor told us. "We'd never been to Elsweyr before. In fact, no-one has been to Elsweyr since 1994 with Elder Scrolls: Arena, and so it was time, it was just time to go to this cool place with this cool race and tell some really funny stories, because they're cat people. They have a really funny, idiosyncratic way of talking, and their culture's really cool [...] It's just different, it's really cool and very different."
"With the Khajiit we wanted to go back to a more uncivilised area with the race that nobody knew a whole lot about. Like, people didn't know a whole lot about Summerset from lore, but they knew a lot about Altmer from lore - nobody knows much about the Khajiit at all, except for the way that the moons affect the way they're born and things like that. But their societies, the cities, the way they work, we got to work a lot with that because there wasn't established lore, and that's always exciting for us as game developers."
