Overwatch 2's announcement might have only been a month ago, but that hasn't stopped the developers from hinting at their desires to expand Overwatch with spin-off games and even films.

In an interview with Edge magazine (Issue 340, via PCGamesN), Jeff Kaplan expressed that the development team is dreaming of other forms of media, although they don't seem to know which one to go with:

"Movies? An animated series? What other game types would everyone love to see in the Overwatch universe? We hope that the characters of Overwatch exist far into the future and are expressed in ways that we can't even imagine today."

This isn't the first time that Jeff Kaplan has expressed his hopes for something like this, as he as previously stated that he would "love to make something like a future film or an episodic series" in an interview with us two years ago.

Since Overwatch 2 is making more of an effort in the world-building department with story missions and PVE content, it could be more likely that we'll see something in the future, especially since we've already received cinematic shorts, stories, and more in the past.

Currently, Blizzard has "no idea" when Overwatch 2 will release so it might be best for them to prioritise their hotly anticipated sequel before delving into a grand cinematic universe.
