Jet Force Gemini was so late 90s... It sported quirky environments, ant-shaped enemies, cute Rare-like characters, beautiful graphics, innovative third-person shooter mechanics (with some toon-gore added for good measure) and a captivating alien sci-fi world. Well, we don't know whether that bizarre premise - or a modern remake based on that - would click with current trends and tastes, but what we know for sure is that many, many fans of the 1999 Nintendo 64 classic would kill (ants, at least) for some kind of return.

And today they have new hope. Microsoft registered the Jet Force Gemini trademark last spring, and now the action has been approved by the US TM office, and this happened the day before yesterday.

Of course, those hopes include the most ambitious case: a full, proper remake or reboot of the series. That would mean the Killer Instinct treatment. Otherwise, more realistically it has been done with a view towards usage of the old IP and content for minor appearances such as cameos or DLC (this being the Battletoads case, testing the ground before a potential full game). The saddest case would be renewing this brand "just in case".

We'll see in the following weeks and months, but Microsoft is prom¡sing another bunch of exclusives for Xbox One this year. Now, how would you like to see Jet Force Gemini make a triumphant return?
