Acclaimed director J.J. Abrams has shown an interest in games over the years, and collaborations have been mentioned with some frequency, even involving Gabe Newell and Valve.

But it would seem that Abrams is tired of talking and wants to take action and, that being the case, he's unveiled a brand new studio dedicated to developing games.

This new division of his company, Bad Robot, is called Bad Robot Games, and it has been launched with the help of both Chinese media conglomerate Tencent, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The division will be run by Dave Baronoff, who's previously headed up Bad Robot's game projects.

"I'm a massive games fan, and increasingly envious of the amazing tools developers get to work with, and the worlds they get to play in. Now we are doubling down on our commitment to the space with a unique co-development approach to game making that allows us to focus on what we do best, and hopefully be a meaningful multiplier to our developer partners," Abrams said in a statement.

The company will be making indie titles for PC, consoles and mobile, but will also team up with other developers. We await more news with interest.
