Josef Fares is a developer who has won the hearts and minds of many with his... unique behaviour and approach to design, creating the co-op experience A Way Out that released this year, and when we talked to him at Gamelab we asked about the game and it's reception, which he seems pleased with.

"[A Way Out] was difficult because we aimed extremely high for that small team we are, so there's so much work just getting all the content in it" Fares explained. "You have to understand that many people perceived A Way Out as developed [with] a triple-A production, but it definitely is not."

"But how the reaction's been? I think for A Way Out the reaction, the impact for reaction in a sense has been a bit stronger," he continued when comparing it to his previous game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. "I don't know why. Brothers, people really felt it as well, but A Way Out... I don't know if it's because the internet is bigger now or something but I feel like it's more reaction to that, how they react to the ending and how they feel about the game and so on."

"And I'm really happy when some people say that A Way Out has the worst ending ever; I love it. They've also said that A Way Out has the best ending ever - I love to fuck with people's minds a little bit."

Did it f*ck with your mind?

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"A unique and engaging game that dares to do something different in an industry that's often frightened to take risks."
