The month of July saw both hardware and software sales increase greatly for Nintendo, as revealed in this month's NPD report.

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the 3DS was the best-selling video game system. Monster Hunter Generations, the 2DS price drop, and the immense worldwide popularity of Pokémon Go are all factors in Nintendo's success in July.

In its statement Nintendo revealed that the 3DS family of systems sold 80 percent more this July when compared to the same period last year. The success for Nintendo's hardware doesn't end there, as the Nintendo 2DS hit two million lifetime sales in the US.

Software saw amazing success for Nintendo as well. Capcom's Monster Hunter Generations was the best-selling game for any system. As you'd expect given that Pokémon Go launched in July, the sales of Pokémon games increased as well. Sales of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire were 80% higher than July 2015. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were released in 2014. They weren't the only Pokémon games to sell well. July sales of the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games for Nintendo 3DS were almost 200 percent higher than a year ago. Pokémon X and Y launched in 2013.

July was a good month for Nintendo then, and it will be interesting to see how they fair in August now that the Pokémon Go frenzy seems to have died down a little.
