Bioshock: The Collection, a remastered collection that includes all three games in the Bioshock series (Bioshock, Bioshock 2 and Bioshock Infinite), with respective DLC and expansions, will be available tomorrow, and you can read our review over here.

With this upcoming release just around the corner, Rolling Stone had the opportunity to interview Ken Levine, the famous creator of the series, to understand what the motivations were that led him to leave the series, and then Irrational Games (closed shortly after).

We already know that Ken Levine's future goals are all about the formation of a smaller studio to develop more experimental products, but the creator never actually explained why he decided to leave. It seems like it hinges on the fact that the series was influencing his life too much:

"I saw a picture of me when we first announced it. That was 2010. And then I saw a picture of me after I did an interview on NPR when we shipped it in 2013. And I look 10 years older. It changed my life in terms of what it did to my health, and what it did to my view of making games, and my relationships with people."

Then it seems he preferred to manage a smaller team to know every staff member: "Managing 30 or 40 people where you know everybody's name is a very different process than managing 150 people. You walk by people in the studio and you don't know who they are."

"I think the natural expectation was that I would go and do the next bigger and better Bioshock game. And I felt, 'I think I'll fail if I do that. I think I'll lose my mind, and my marriage.' And so my solution was to quit."

"We would've liked a bit more from this collection, but if you've never played Bioshock you owe it to yourself to take a look."
