Lara Croft actor on the lack of women in Tomb Raider

The actor playing Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie (based on the Cyrstal Dynamics reboot from 2013), Alicia Vikander, has commented on the lack of women that feature in the film.

Tomb Raider (the movie and the games) is based on the exploits of Lara Croft, so it's hard to argue that there isn't a strong female character, but apparently, beyond the film's leading lady, there aren't many women in strong supporting roles.

"I got to work with Kristin Scott Thomas and she is an extraordinary actress, but me too, I agree," Vikander said on The One Show when discussing why there weren't more women in the film. "I was on the island and I was thinking, 'there are not enough women'. I was running around looking for them!"

While she might have been joking with her answer on the BBC show, it does underline a serious and ongoing issue that affects a lot of films, and that's a lack of on-screen equality.

The Tomb Raider movie is set to start rolling out in cinemas from March 15, and of course, we'll be reviewing it here on Gamereactor, so stay tuned for that.
